FINAL DESIGN
I worked with Dr. Katie Shilton, the lead of the EViD Lab, and her research team. Drawing from their research findings, I aimed to recreate the real-world challenges of content moderation in a game format. The game featured real-life examples of content moderation policies and "borderline" content cases, which I first prototyped on paper and later recreated on Miro for further refinement.

Single-player Mode & Multiplayer Mode
Based on the playtesting feedback, I identified several areas for improvement to enhance the game's design and experience: • Added a "Policy Development Lead" role to facilitate decision-making when there is a tie between players. • Provide More Meaningful Feedback. • Offer different difficulty levels (e.g., easy, medium, hard) could cater to various player skill levels and increase replayability. • Added time limits to create a sense of urgency and efficiency. • Added Reward System, such as unlocking new content and earning achievements. • Introduced more randomness and unpredictability to the game scenarios.

Takeaways: • All of the participants enjoyed the game, they liked discussing with each other and made decisions as a team. • Playerss mentioned the game is realistic, since all of the content are from real-world examples. • Players found the flow was inconvenient and ineffective that they had to drag the board back and forth to check the cards. • Players had to go over all of the event cards together, even though many of them weren't relevant to them. • Players weren't sure how different scores work. • The game became predictable after multiple playthroughs.

CONTENTR: Content Moderation by Design is a game that aimed to provide an experience and build empathy of the challenges related to social media content moderation. CONTENTR aims to simulate the content moderation experience, guiding players through crafting policies and making moderation decisions, highlighting the complexities and ethical dilemmas inherent in the process. CONTENTR targets adults unfamiliar with content moderation, mirroring the context and decision-making constraints of real content moderators.
